Choosing the bread, though, should not be a light decision. We want to introduce to you two bread recipes that will never go wrong with quiche: Crusty Bread and Focaccia.

Crusty Bread

Crusty Bread is a popular bread recipe because it produces a bakery-quality type of bread that is a perfect fit to serve with quiche. And it’s simple, too–all you need is yeast, flour, salt, and water for this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 tsp of Yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp of Salt
  • 2 cups + 3 tbsp of Flour
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • Cornmeal

Instructions:

  1. Mix the yeast, salt, and water into a large container. Pour the flour and mix until dry patches are no longer visible. Cover it and let the dough rise for 2 to five hours max at room temperature.
  2. Once ready to bake, sprinkle a small amount of flour and cut the dough into your preferred size. Then, stretch the dough and create a round top with a flat bottom.
  3. Place the dough on the pizza peel with sprinkled cornmeal. Let it sit for 40 minutes. Then, place the dough into a broiler pan.
  4. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes before placing the broiler pan with the dough.
  5. Bake the dough for 30 minutes until it becomes brown. Then, let the bread cool afterward.

Focaccia Bread

Tips to Make Quiche

  1. The filling ingredients of your quiche should be cooked, not raw. You can use any food or leftovers, as long as it is a combination of cheese, meat, vegetables, and eggs.
  2. Learn the right egg-milk ratio, as quiches are basically made of eggs and milk. Remember that each egg is equivalent to half a cup of milk.
  3. Use shortcuts. To save more time, you can use pre-made crusts.
  4. Make sure to pre-cook meat and vegetables. Cooking them properly helps release their juices, enhancing the quiche’s tasty flavor.
  5. Overstuffed quiche may not be ideal. Too many ingredients may lead to a failure to achieve the light and fluffy texture.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is Quiche a main dish?

Quiche can be both a main dish and a side dish.

Quiche is filled with a tasty pastry crust made of egg, milk, cheese, meat, seafood, or vegetables. It can be either served cold or hot.

As a main dish, it is usually served during breakfast, lunch, or brunch. However, you can also have it for dinner with a healthy salad of your choice.

As a side dish, it can complement well with meat or poultry, depending on its filling. It does not usually go with fish, yet you could try shrimp and crab as a main dish paired with quiche.

What meat goes well with quiche?

The kinds of meat that typically goes well with quiche are bacon, ham, sausage, beef, and chicken. Since quiche is a versatile dish, you can freely choose which kinds of meat you prefer, either for the quiche itself or for the side dish.

What cheeses can be used in quiche?

Three of the most common cheeses used for a quiche are mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan. However, some people prefer to use goat cheese. The truth of the matter is, you have the freedom to choose which cheese you like to go with your quiche. You can be creative and experimental with quiche as long as you stick with the egg-milk ratio.

How do you reheat quiche?

Before reheating, let your quiche sit at room temperature for a while after being taken out from the fridge. This ensures the even and proper reheating of quiche. When it has gotten closer to room temperature, place the quiche on a baking sheet and cover the crust with foil. Reheat the quiche for about 25 minutes at 450 degrees Fahrenheit in an oven.

Why is my quiche watery?

The custard’s firm filling lies on the coagulation of the proteins from the eggs. If you bake it for a more extended period or at a too high temperature, the proteins may over-coagulate, resulting in a watery quiche.

How long should quiche rest before cutting?

You have to wait 10 to 20 minutes before slicing a quiche that is fresh from the oven. Once the quiche is done, you need to let it sit at room temperature to ensure continuous cooking on the inside while the exterior cools down.
