Who doesn’t love having burgers on the grill? The grill lines from the grates, the flavor that the charcoal and hickory chips infuse into the meat. It is no secret that hamburgers on the grill are simply better than any other burger.
Need to know NOW? I picked the Hamilton Beach Indoor Searing Grill
Unfortunately, elements outside of our control tend to hinder our ability to enjoy the perfect lunchtime meal. Too often they relegate us to eating basic, pan-fried burgers with no real flavor at all.
Of course, we can’t bring the grill inside (at least not unless we are willing to violate all safety protocol) but there is a nifty device that gives us a better alternative.

Indoor electric grills
Indoor electric grills are essentially little baby grills that allow you come very close to the flavor you get from burgers cooked on gas or charcoal grills. Of course, it isn’t an exact replica, but if you find the right grill, you can almost fool yourself into thinking you are eating truly grilled burgers.
Some people swear that these grills don’t even come close to working, and the truth is, there’s a reason for that. The problem happens when people get something cheaply made that doesn’t generate nearly enough heat. So I am here to help you find an indoor grill that will actually work. Get ready to change your approach to indoor burgers.
George Foreman 6 – Serving Grill and Panini Press
The George Foreman grills have been in circulation since, seemingly forever. They are still here today because they makes good on their promise to deliver tasty, healthy grilling every time.
This version is a countertop grill that has 100 square inches of non-stick cooking space and griddle lines on the top and bottom of the grill. The patented sloped design allows all of the fat and grease to run down and into the drip tray. You will never have to eat another burger that sat in its own grease in the skillet again.
The grill plates and the drip tray are dishwasher safe, offering easy clean-up. The LCD display clearly shows you what the temperature of the grill plate is. It also has a digital timer to indicate your food is finished cooking.
Should you get the George Foreman?
The Foreman grills have been a staple in many homes for many years now. I like that it keeps grease away from your food and that it is large enough to cook a few burgers on it at once. The removable, dishwasher safe, trays are huge time savers as well.
A downside that some have experienced is, after several times using it, the food begins to brown very quickly on the top, causing uneven cooking times on different parts of the burger.
Hamilton Beach Indoor Electric Searing Grill
The Hamilton Beach Indoor Grill is a beast of an indoor grill. It almost replaces your outdoor gas or charcoal grill – well, let’s not go that far. But it is an incredible machine that approximates outdoor grill results.
It has an adjustable temperature control knob and even has high heat searing capabilities (searing your food is the most important technique when trying to lock in the flavors).
Indicator lights let you know when the surface is properly preheated. Oh, and the removable plates are non-stick and dishwasher safe.
Should you get the Hamilton Beach Grill?
This grill is absolutely amazing, if only for the searing option that you have with it. The domed lid keeps the heat trapped so it can replicate the way burgers are cooked on charcoal and gas grills. It is large enough to fit 3 to 4 chicken breasts and the drip pan catches all of the fat ensuring an easy cleanup when you are done cooking.
My biggest complaint would be that it is made with a lot more plastic than you would expect with an electric grill. It makes it feel like a cheap device, even though it doesn’t cook anything like one.
Cuisinart GR-4N 5 in 1 Griddler
This is a 5 in 1 countertop grilling machine that can also make one hell of a panini. It can be used as a full griddle press, or you can open it all the way up and use it as a half griddle if you choose.
It has adjustable temperature controls with built-in indicators that light up when your griddle is hot enough to begin cooking. The griddles can be easily removed and are dishwasher safe.
Should you get the Cuisinart?
This is a decent option. I think I like it better than any other grill press out there, but it doesn’t change the fact that it is a grill press. While you can use it as a full press or half griddle, it’s not quite the same as the Hamilton Beach where you get the full enclosed hood effect. This one is good if you want to do more than grill. More options on how to cook really gets you your money’s worth.
Wrap – Up
Being able to go outside and cook your burgers on the grill is not always an option, especially for those who live in colder climates. Indoor electric grills are a terrific alternative. But they will also save you from having to dirty new pots and pans as well as save you from having to fire up the stovetop.
My favorite is the Hamilton Beach grill. The pull down lid makes it the most like an outdoor grill. Since replicating that outdoor flavor when we can’t go outside is what we’re looking for today, it wins.
So… when the weather warms up and it’s time to grill outdoors again, check out my post all about who makes the best gas grills.
