To get an even baste you need an efficient basting brush

Basting brushes are essential tools for any novice or a grill-master.

Whether you’re just grilling a few pieces of chicken or a full ham, a basting brush can make your life infinitely easier.

You can check out my favorite basting brush at Amazon.

They let you slather on large amounts of any oil, sauce, or glaze onto your food while grilling.

This promises to give it the best flavor without burning your hands or risking your other cookware over the high heat temperatures of the grill.

Luckily, basting brushes are relatively economically priced across the board. Even so, you still want something that’s going to get the job done properly.

Your ideal basting brush has a long handle that can hold large amounts of liquid and evenly distribute it. Here are my tips on hoe to spot the best basting brush.

And I’ve added a few of my suggestions of the best options you’ll find at Amazon.

Bristles

It’s pretty much agreed upon across all corners of the grilling world that silicone bristles are the absolute best material for the bristles of your basting brush.

They tend to last much longer than the competition, and are extremely heat-resistant, usually up to 600℉.

You should also try to find a basting brush with as many bristles as possible.

This allows the brush to retain maximum liquids and evenly distribute it across and around your food.

They should also be at least an inch long so that they can navigate the curves and shapes of the food with ease.

Handle

The longer the handle, the better. This is mostly a safety precaution, but it’s extremely important when you consider how the hot sauce or oil could bounce off of your food and burn you.

But, if the handle is too long, you might have a harder time controlling it and the sauce. Most grillers recommend about a 12 inch handle as a “just right” length.
