- Get the right kind of grind. A big requirement for cold brew coffee is that you need a specific grind. A large grind will cause the brew to become bitter. This is why grinding coffee ground before brewing them is recommended so the end result is not too bitter.
- Use more water than coffee. If you are using 6 ounces of coffee then make sure you have 6 to 7 cups of water. If you are adding less water but more coffee, be prepared for a bitter, bitter coffee taste.
- Strain it slowly. Well-known coffee shops have high-end coffee machines that strain their coffee in a way where it is being done very slowly. Since you are brewing yours at home, you need to make sure you are straining it very slowly through a cheesecloth and strainer. - 2 cups of whole coffee beans

- 1 big container, 2 ½ quarts or larger (for infusing)
- Strainer/colander or funnel
- Fine mesh nut milk bag, coffee filters, paper towels, OR a cheesecloth(for filtering)
- Glass bottles or jars for storing cold brew in the fridge
- Start by measuring the coffee beans and grind them up in small batches (you want to end up with a medium coarse texture). If you are using pre-ground coffee, you can skip this step. If you want a strong cold brew coffee, you can grind your coffee grounds finer and you will have to filter it two or more times to make sure the small particles are out. With the help of a coffee filter, paper towel, or cheesecloth, you will be able to remove all the particles successfully.
- Pour the ground coffee in a large container, and measure the purified water. Pour half of the water into the coffee container and start mixing with a wooden spoon until all the coffee has mixed in with the water. Then, add in all the water and mix again.
- Place a covering on the coffee water mixture and let it sit at room temperature for 18 to 24 hours without stirring in between. When the time is over, line a strainer with multiple layers of paper towels, coffee filters or cheese cloths over a bowl. Before pouring the liquid, make sure there is a filter on the container that has the coffee water mixture in it.
- Slowly start pouring the coffee onto the filter, making sure everything is getting out of the container. With fine ground coffee beans, you will need to repeat this step at least 2 to 3 times to make sure all the particles are out of the liquid.
- When you are done with the tedious straining process, you can pour your cold brewed coffee into air-tight bottles, glass jars or mason jars and store them. You can serve it with ice on top of it or let it get cold in a refrigerator and then drink. If your coffee feels too strong or extremely caffeinated, you can add equal parts of water and cream to dilute the flavor. You can store this cold brewed coffee for a week.
