Most people get their bread from the grocery store. It comes wrapped in plastic lasts a long time. I use to think that bread just had a long shelf life. But the opposite is true.

The only reason store-bought bread stays fresh so long as the number of preservatives added in the baking process.
When I found that out, I decided to make a switch to homemade bread. True, the shelf-life of homemade bread is shorter. Though I tend to eat it faster because it’s so delicious. It barely has time to go bad!
Bread boxes to the rescue
Still, finding a way to extend the life of homemade bread just makes sense. You really don’t want to waste something you put so much work into. Luckily, bread boxes are here to help you prolong the life of your bread by regulating the moisture.
If you bake fresh bread or purchase it from a bakery, you should definitely think about getting a bread box. Before you go purchase one, I’ll go over a couple of different types and give you an idea of which ones will be worth spending your money on.
Wesco Grandy Bread Storage Box
The Wesco Grandy comes in a ton of cool colors. You’ll no doubt find one that matches the theme of your kitchen. It is a rectangle shaped metal box with a sort of industrial, 60s vibe to it.
Good ventilation, solid construction
It has ventilation holes in the back of the box, regulating moisture inside of it to keep your bread fresh. It is made with a high-quality powder-coated sheet steel and has metal hinges and handles. This is very well constructed, durable and weighs roughly seven pounds.
The company will also give you a one year warranty where they will replace the box for you if it doesn’t hold up.
Should you buy this one?
This piece is a very good bread container that many other companies try to replicate. The difference between this box and the ones other companies make is the material the storage box is made with. Wesco did not cut any corners when making this product, which is evident the moment you see it.
It is on the more expensive side of the price spectrum, but if you are going to be trusting it with something as wonderful as your homemade bread, I recommend you get one that is worthy of the task.
Greenco Stainless Steel Bread Bin
The stainless steel bread bin by Greenco is a good choice if you are looking for something that is very affordable but still looks nice on your countertop.
It is made with 18/0 stainless steel. What’s 18/0? Well, the first number represents the amount of chromium in the container, and the second represents how much nickel is present. More nickel means more shine. I like the look of the low luster on this one. Being stainless means this one is going to last.
Smooth roll top action
The door has very smooth contact points and will easily slide up to open the box and down to close it. There are small holes located in the back of the bread box to help with airflow so the bread can stay fresh longer.
Compact size but good capacity
The dimensions are 16.5″ by 10″ by 8″ tall, so it shouldn’t take up too much of your counter space (always a good thing if you have a smaller kitchen). Even though it takes up minimal counter space, it is made to hold two loaves of bread.
Should you purchase this one?
I like the idea of having stainless steel in my kitchen, so this is definitely one I would look into getting. The real problem (for me) is that too many people in the house eat sandwiches, meaning there will be fingerprints all over this container by the end of the day.
For the amount you are paying, you are definitely getting a quality product. But if you hate seeing smudges and fingerprints all over your kitchen, then I would stay away from this one.
Brabantia Fall Front Bread Box
This is another stainless steel bread container, but this one has with black sides. It looks beautiful, and the best part is, it will stay that way.
The stainless steel is fingerprint-proof, so you won’t have to wipe off fingerprints every time someone gets a slice of bread.
Storage space up top
It has a flat top design so you can put items on top to save counter space. The door opens from the front, and the hinges on it are high-quality and won’t break over time. There is a magnetic seal on the door as well that keeps your bread neatly tucked away in the box.
This product comes with a ten-year guarantee. If it fails within that time, contact the manufacturer and they will resolve your issue, which makes it a worry free purchase.
Should you get this one?
This is also on the pricey side of bread boxes. But it has a ventilation base that keeps your bread fresher longer time than most boxes and has anti-fingerprint properties that keep your container smudge free.
Wrap – Up
Bread boxes are essential for keeping your home baked bread fresh for more than a day or two. Putting bread in the fridge is terrible for the bread and actually speeds up the staling process. Get a bread box. Not only will your bread stay fresher longer, they look great on your countertop.
If you were to ask for my opinion, I would say my favorite is the Brabantia model. I love stainless steel, and I love that it’s fingerprint proof.
