Water can be a little boring, and we often have to force ourselves into drinking more of it because it’s so important. It helps your metabolism to burn more fat throughout the day. It keeps you energized throughout the day. Water keeps your skin clear and your hair clean. And if you swap one caloric drink for water every day, you can 20 pounds a year without having to do anything else.
Hack your water
Some of us have developed our own unique techniques for making it more enjoyable, or for getting more of it into our systems. Carrying a water bottle with you to work or school is a good way of making sure you get your daily dose. Some will squeeze some lemon juice or orange juice into large jugs of water to make it a little more flavorsome.
Here are some other cool water “hacks!”
Add cucumber, fruit, or herbs
Adding a few slices of cucumber to your water imparts a refreshing flavor. Just slice up a cucumber, peeled or unpeeled, into ½-inch slices. Pour water into a large pitcher, add your slices, and let it sit for at least an hour. For the best cucumber water, store it overnight in the fridge. Yum!
You could also use other veggies, like celery, to liven up your water. Celery water is made with celery stalks, a pinch of salt, lemon juice, and your sweetener of choice. Add the ingredients to a mason jar (which is great for juicing, smoothies, and flavored water) and allow to sit overnight in the fridge.
Replace your child’s sugary sodas with a healthy alternative! Try adding a few slices of strawberry or apple to the water. This adds another dimension of nutritional value to the water, and makes it nice and sweet. You could add any number of fruits: mango, kiwi, pineapple, cherries, or watermelon.

Eat foods with a high water content
Another great way to get more water into your diet is by eating foods with a high water content. Fruit contains 80% to 90% water. Vegetables like tomatoes, celery, onions, lettuce, cucumbers, and other water-rich greens are great as well.
