OK, it’s time to talk about our diets for a minute. How can we make up for the junk food, heavy pasta, and any of the other heavy foods we constantly eat? Simple – by implementing vegetables into our meals anywhere possible.
My pick? I like the OXO Good Grips Swivel Peeler.
One of the best ways to do this (especially if you love pasta dishes) is to substitute heavy carb pasta with veggies like carrots, zucchini, and squash. If it sounds difficult, let me assure you, it isn’t. All you need to do is peel your veggies to look like pasta noodles, throw some seasoning on it, cook it up and boom. You have yourself a delicious, nutrient-rich, low carb, zucchini pasta. And it tastes delicious when paired with the right foods.

But to do this, you will need the proper tool, a tool that you can typically get for a pretty good price. I’m talking of course about a vegetable peeler.
In order to get the best zucchini cuts, I scoured the Earth (which really means the internet) to find the best vegetable peeler in the world. I came across some good ones, and some mediocre ones. But eventually, I saw some vegetable peelers that stood out above the rest.
Let’s just get into my recommendations.
Best “Y” Peeler: Kuhn Rikon Original Swiss Peeler
It didn’t take long to recognize the usefulness of this peeler. The moment I got my hands on it, I knew this tool was going to put in major work. Its versatility is unmatched, I mean, it’s right there in the name (SWISS), as in a Swiss army knife.
It can tackle a wide array of vegetables, from the fattest sweet potato you can find to the slimmest carrot, and it peels them without any issues.
The Kuhn Rikon is one of the lightest items on the market and because of that, your hands and arms don’t get fatigued when you are using it (very important when you’re peeling all day). And the smooth blade slices through almost anything without having to apply pressure.
Construct for the Kuhn Rikon
- The blade is made from carbon steel to help it stay sharp after multiple uses
- Ergonomic handle is easy-to-use with right or left hand
- Has a potato eye remover (anyone who has ever peeled potatoes understands how important that is)
- Dimensions: 4” x 2.5” x 0.5”
Verdict
If you are a fan of the “Y” blade vegetable peelers, you’ll definitely like this purchase. It is lightweight and cuts through any vegetable you put it up against with ease. The blade can rust over time (just like any other blade), but if you put some cooking oil on it every once in awhile, you’ll be just fine. Also, be sure you wash it by hand to preserve the life of the blade. Find this peeler at Amazon.
Best Straight Blade Vegetable Peeler: OXO Good Grips Pro Swivel Peeler
The OXO is much heavier than the Kuhn Rikon (relative to vegetable peelers of course), but it is also much sturdier than the “Y” blade peeler made by Kuhn. The blade is made of extra hardened precision ground stainless steel, with a body that is made from die-cast zinc, and the handle is made with a contour grip that has plenty of cushion on it, so your hands don’t get tired.
This peeler is ergonomically designed for ease of use, and the non-slip grip keeps your hands from getting sweaty and clammy during times of longer uses.
Construct of the OXO
- The stainless steel blade is sharp and durable enough to retain its sharpness throughout its lifespan
- Swivel blade gives the user the control needed when peeling delicate foods.
- Stainless steel means that this product is dishwasher safe.
Verdict
I tend to think that you can never go wrong with stainless steel products, they are made to last and often stay in use years after purchasing them, and you should expect to get a lot of use from this peeler. The swivel blade makes it so much easier to peel fruits and vegetables that are on the delicate side.
Being dishwasher safe is obviously a plus, but the cushion on the handle doesn’t react too well to being doused in water for the duration of a wash cycle because of that I would suggest hand washing this device. But overall, it is a really good vegetable peeler. See this peeler listed at Amazon.
Wrap – Up
When you are choosing a vegetable peeler it is important to remember that there isn’t one item that is perfect for everybody. It often depends on the preference of the purchaser. If you value lightweight over sturdiness, then you should go with the Kuhn peeler. Conversely, if you value sturdy products more than you do lightweight ones, then you should get the OXO. Either one you choose, you will be happy with the purchase you made.
