How do you make breakfast for your family without half of it being cold by the time it’s ready? Once you finish the pancakes you cook the eggs and you’ve still got bacon or sausage to go after that.
Of course, you could cook it all at once if you wanted to, but the cleanup would be terrible. If only there were a skillet or pan big enough that you could cook everything at the same time…
Lucky for those of you who love breakfast, I’d like you t meet the pancake griddle.
I’m calling it a pancake griddle, but actually, you can use it for anything. Today we’ll go over a few different options of griddles and help you find the best one for you.
Black + Decker Electric Griddle
This family-sized griddle by Black + Decker is ideal for, well, families. It has cooking surface of 22″ by 11″ and can serve up to 8 people at a time (this depends on what your family considers a serving size, of course).
It also has a Teflon non-stick surface that makes cleanup pretty darn easy. The best part is, the cooking surface is dishwasher safe. Simply detach it from the heat source and throw it in the dishwasher. You also get a drip pan, so you aren’t cooking your bacon or sausage in a pool of grease.
Good temp control and distribution
There is a knob that lets you control the temperature of the griddle and it has a temperature locking system that goes all the way up to 400º F. It has decent heat distribution for the price, and if you allow the skillet time to heat up properly, you should get a consistent temperature throughout the surface.
Should you get this one?
This is a very good product for anyone on a budget. If you have any college age children (or are in college yourself) this Black and Decker would be a great addition to the dorm room.
It does have a pretty short cord that can cause problems if you don’t have outlets on the counter tops, and you’ll have to be gentle if you want it to last. No dropping, rough handling or using harsh utensils on this one.
For the price, you get a nice-sized griddle with easy clean up.
Presto Slimline Griddle
Large but sleek
This is a simple design with a generous cook surface. And it’s made by a company that specializes in cooking materials. The surface area for cooking is bigger than the B+D at 22″ by 13″. A drip tray for catching grease is easily removable for cleaning.
Durable and submergible
It also has a warp-proof heavy cast aluminum so you will not need to worry about getting heat damage, which can happen on cheaper models. Plus you can put it completely underwater after you remove the heat control.
Unfortunately, it’s not dishwasher safe, but thanks to the non-stick, a quick wash in the sink will be all you need. The non-stick surface also makes it easy to flip your eggs, pancakes, or french toast without damaging the food and getting the cooking surface messy.
You might expect something with this large of a cooking area to take up a lot of space when you store it. But Because it has such a slim design, it is very easy to store in your cabinets.
Should you get this one?
The cooking space on here is fantastic, and being able to cook for the entire family in one go is so convenient. The clean up is as easy as you will find, and the ability to control the temperature is ideal for foods that need specific heat settings to cook properly.
The area that this falls short in is with the drip tray. The drip tray is kind of flimsy and can tip over rather easily. To remedy this just be careful when removing it and empty regularly.
However, the Presto Slimline is perfect for those with limited storage space, but still want the ability to go big at breakfast.
Broil King PCG-10 Professional
Cook like a pro
This is a portable griddle that holds up to the “professional” tag in its name. It reaches 425º F while the handles stay cool to the touch. No worries about burning yourself if you need to reposition it mid-cook.
Seriously big surface
It has one of the largest cooking surface (12.5″ by 29″ plus a 5.5″ backsplash) which gives you sufficient space to cook large quantities of food at once.
Quick to clean
It also has a removable grease tray and a detachable cook surface that you can submerge in water. Broil King says you can put in the dishwasher, but due to it’s large size (and the non-stick) a wipe down in the sink will probably be enough.
The elevated rear legs help the grease run-off the cooking surface and collect in the drip tray.
Even heat distribution
The place this product shines the most is its ability to distribute heat to the entire cooking surface more consistently than others do. And if you do find yourself having issues with it, the manufacturer offers a one-year warranty.
Should you purchase this one?
If you’re willing to spend a little more for a top-notch pancake griddle, this will be your best bet. The combination of even heat distribution and high cooking temperatures is terrific for anybody cooking large amounts of food at once.
The only real drawback is the price. More expensive than the other products reviewed today, but if you need a high-quality griddle, this is the one you want.
Wrap – Up
Using an electric pancake griddle is something everyone who cooks for large groups of people should look into. But it isn’t just about the size of the cooking surface.
Because electric griddles are so small, they are able to cook your food at high temperatures without heating up your entire house. And the clean up on them is going to be considerably easier than cleaning 5 different pans after breakfast.
Clean up is not the point. The point is pancakes perfectly cooked and served up hot.
